Are You Free?

I am from Vietnam. I came here with my family as a political refugee in 1993. Everyone wants to come to the United States of America because this is the land of freedom. We have a lot of privileges here. We are free people. However, are we truly free? Jesus could answer that question for us. Jesus answered, “Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.”

The problem now is many of us do not have a sense of sin anymore. “Bless me father for I have sinned. My last confession was a year ago. I do not have any big sins.” If we compromise and refuse to follow the teaching of the Church through the Holy Father or Bishops, we could commit a “big sin”. If we do not obey and listen to the Vicar of Christ today, then we might not believe in the Word of God from heaven over 2000 years ago. Sometimes we treat our spiritual leaders as political figures rather than the ones who are sent by God.

Jesus said, “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” In Jesus there is true freedom because his Words teach us to trust in God, to tell the truth, and to love one another as ourselves. His teaching applies for all without exceptions or favorites.

St. Oscar Romero (Feast Day: March 24) was truly free when he had no fear to speak up and defend for the truth and for the poor.

Question: Do you have true freedom in your heart, mind and soul?

Fr. Tat invites you to join The Gospels of Hope this Wednesday at 7PM (CT). God bless you always! Please invite and share this Zoom link with those who might need Hope and Joy of God in their lives.
